Munich (dpa / lby) - A youth basketball coach does not have to pay pain and suffering after the collision with one of his protégés.

That was decided by the Munich District Court in a judgment published on Friday.

"By participating in sports in which physical exertion against the teammate is part of the peculiarity of the sport within certain limits, the participant consciously exposes himself to the risk of injury typical of the game," the court decided.

A then 17-year-old had his trainer's elbow on his lip during a basketball game and injured his incisors so that he could only eat liquid food for three months.

He demanded almost 4,000 euros in damages and compensation for pain and suffering from his trainer - as well as compensation for further damage that occurred in the future.

The court dismissed the complaint: “He cannot pass on any damage he incurs to another, such as an opponent;

every player is a potential violator as well as injured in the «fight for the ball».

The judgment is final because the plaintiff withdrew his appeal.
