Braunschweig / Peine (dpa / lni) - A gray goose infected with bird flu has been found dead in the Peine district.

The city of Braunschweig announced on Friday that a reference study had confirmed the H5N8 virus.

Since a spread of the virus cannot be ruled out, some parts of Braunschweig are required to be stabled.

A general decree will come into force on Tuesday.

The city administration appealed to the poultry farmers affected to implement the necessary measures immediately.

Avian influenza is a highly contagious and notifiable viral disease in poultry and other bird species.

The virus has appeared in German coastal countries since November.
