Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Museum Association of Thuringia has demanded that the planned restructuring of the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation should not have a negative impact on the museum landscape.

"More funds from the Free State for a new and larger castle foundation must not bring about a shift in emphasis in favor of the residential culture or in favor of the few large museums with simultaneous financial disadvantages for the Thuringian museum landscape in general", it said in a reaction announced on Friday of the Association (MVT).

In December, Minister of Culture Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff (Left) presented a draft for the redesign of the STSG's abbreviated lock foundation.

This manages 31 properties, including castles and other historical buildings.

The museums and collections, some of which are included, are, however, often owned by other foundations and municipalities.

A change in the law should make it possible, among other things, for the foundation to take responsibility for the content of the castles.

The background to the change plans is also a strong financial injection from Berlin for the palaces in the Free State.

A stronger financial commitment is desired, emerges from the opinion of the MVT.

"The municipalities and museums do not want to lose responsibility for their collections."

In order to ensure that the museum landscape is not taken advantage of by the changes at the foundation, the association insists on a decentralized structure of the foundation.

In this way, local museums could continue to bear creative responsibility.

The MVT welcomed the expansion of the Board of Trustees, brought into play by Hoff, to include a “representative for museum matters”.

However, he demanded that the office be met in coordination between the Ministry of Culture and the association's executive board so that the interests of the entirety of the Thuringian museums are represented.

In addition, the foundation should not only take over or support the princely collections and properties.

"If all other museum and property types were left to manage the financially weak municipalities, there is a risk of trivialization and decay", according to the MVT.
