The 34-year-old man is suspected of having sold the young people's pills last week, the police and public prosecutor in Essen said on Friday.
The young person collapsed after taking the ecstasy pills and died early Monday morning.
According to the information, clues had led to the alleged dealer in Gelsenkirchen.
When his home was searched, drugs were found, the message said.
