Waldachtal (dpa / lsw) - Despite the corona crisis, the fastening specialist Fischer closed 2020 almost at the previous year's level.

According to information from Friday, sales only fell from 887 to 872 million euros.

"Adjusted for exchange rate effects, sales were even at 877 million euros and thus exactly at the level of the previous year adjusted for exchange rates," said the group with 5200 employees in Waldachtal (Freudenstadt district).

That is much better than expected after the first few months of last year.

Fischer generally does not report a consolidated result.

For 2021, the Black Forests, with reference to the imponderables during the pandemic "and some economically unfriendly decisions", do not dare a forecast.

According to the announcement, the fact that 2020 went better than feared is primarily due to the fastening systems area.

Here the business was disproportionately successful in several countries.

Despite restrictions for the automotive industry due to the Corona crisis, Fischer also achieved stable sales in the automotive sector.

Fischer intends to expand further this year.

Subsidiaries in Vietnam and Serbia are to start production.

In addition, the group is committed to promoting start-ups.

Last year, Fischer housed several of these young companies in a new “InnovationsCampus”, right next to the headquarters in the former home of company owner Klaus Fischer.

Outside of everyday work, they should develop innovations here and quickly bring them to market maturity.

This concept should be rolled out internationally this year, it said.
