"His first love" ... Biden gives his first foreign policy speech as president

US President Joe Biden will visit the US State Department today, Thursday, and will deliver his first foreign policy speech as president.

Biden has been deeply interested in US foreign policy since becoming a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee in the late 1990s.

Biden is expected to discuss how his administration will restore the American role in the world and cooperate with allies after four turbulent years under former President Donald Trump, who embraced a more isolationist ideology.

On Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Jane Saki told reporters that foreign policy was Biden's "first love."

However, she added, his speech "will not be a review of his vision on every foreign policy issue."

Ongoing tensions with Russia, the imprisonment of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, competition with China and the recent coup in Myanmar are expected to be high on the Biden administration's foreign policy agenda.
