China News Agency, United Nations, February 4th. The UN Security Council issued a media statement on the situation in Myanmar on the 4th, calling for the immediate release of all detainees.

  On the 1st local time, Myanmar President Win Myint, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and others were detained by the military.

Subsequently, the military announced that it would take over the regime and declared a state of emergency for the country for a period of one year.

On the 2nd, the General Command of the Myanmar National Defense Forces announced the establishment of a national management committee, and the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar National Defense Force Min Aung Lai served as the chairman of the national management committee.

  The Security Council held a closed-door meeting on the situation in Myanmar on the 2nd. Christine Schraner Burgener, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar, briefed the Security Council on the situation.

  The statement said that the Security Council expressed deep concern over the Myanmar military's declaration of a state of emergency in Myanmar on February 1, and the arbitrary detention of President Win Myint, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and others.

The Security Council called for the immediate release of all detainees.

  The Security Council emphasized that it must continue to support Myanmar’s democratic transition, maintain democratic institutions and procedures, avoid violence, and fully respect human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.

The Security Council encourages all parties to engage in dialogue and reconciliation in accordance with the wishes and interests of the Myanmar people.

The Security Council expressed concern about the restrictions on civil society organizations and news media personnel.

The Security Council also called for safe and unhindered humanitarian assistance for all people in need through methods including the re-establishment of United Nations relief flights.

  The Security Council reiterated its strong support for regional organizations, especially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and welcomed the ASEAN presidential statement issued on February 1, 2021.

The Security Council also reaffirmed its support for the good offices of the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar.

  The Security Council reiterated the need to address the root causes of the crisis in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and create necessary conditions for the safe, voluntary, sustainable and dignified return of the displaced.

  The Security Council reaffirmed its firm commitment to Myanmar’s sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity and unity.
