German media reported on Thursday that Leipzig will not be able to host Liverpool in this month's UEFA Champions League clash after authorities refused to issue a travel permit for the English club.

The German Federal Police refused a request by the host club to obtain a special permit that would have allowed Liverpool to travel to Leipzig for the first-leg final match on February 16, despite the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the Corona virus.

"Today, the Leipzig Club informed us that the matter does not fall under the category of exceptional circumstances," the Federal Police said in a statement.

Reports stated that Leipzig will now have to find an alternative stadium for the confrontation and the European Union (UEFA) must notify of any change by next Monday.

Leipzig announced that there would be no comment today, Thursday, about the Liverpool match.

Liverpool will host the return match on the tenth of March.
