The late Chadwick Boseman was cited twice in the nominations for the SAG Awards on Thursday, awards given by the Union of American Actors which often bode well for the Oscar race.

Chadwick Boseman, star of "Black Panther", who died last summer at age 43 of colon cancer that he had never revealed, is in the running for his role as a musician in "The Blues of My Rainey", drama set in 1920s Chicago, and her supporting role in Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods".

The two films were also selected for "Best Distribution", the flagship category of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Less prominent than the Golden Globes which announced their nominations on Wednesday, the SAGs are considered by pundits to be a much more reliable indicator of a film's chances at the Oscars.

With some 10,000 members, the actors are indeed the largest voting college for this category.

Only two comedians have so far received a posthumous Oscar: Peter Finch for "Network, Hands on Television" (1976) by Sidney Lumet and Heath Ledger for "The Dark Knight" (2008) by Christopher Nolan.

Boseman's partner in "The Blues of Ma Rainey", Viola Davis, was also selected by the SAG jury.

In terms of nominations, this film shares first place with "Minari", a drama featuring an American family of Korean descent who settled in rural America in the 1980s in search of a new life.

The film hopes to repeat the feat of "Parasite" which won the prize for best cast at the SAG Awards last year before being named "best film" at the Oscars.

“One Night in Miami” and “The Chicago Seven”, two films focused on the defense of civil rights in America of the 1960s, are also nominated in this flagship category.

Former President Donald Trump tried to steal the show Thursday morning by announcing in a raging letter that he was resigning from the Actors Union, which had recently opened disciplinary proceedings against him after supporters of the Capitol invaded the Capitol. conservative billionaire.

In this letter published by Fox News television, Mr. Trump, who was for a long time the host of the famous reality TV show "The Apprentice", brushes aside this disciplinary procedure: "Everyone s 'don't care! "

"I no longer want to be associated with your union (...), you haven't done anything for me", continues the one who briefly appeared in "Mum, I missed the plane again!"

(1992) or "Zoolander".

"Thank you", simply reacted the officials of the SAG union in a terse statement.

Postponed twice because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 27th SAG Awards will be awarded on April 4, three weeks before the Oscars ceremony.
