Berlin (dpa) - The mood of the German citizens in the corona pandemic threatens to tip over after the long-term survey "The fears of the Germans".

Around half of those questioned now see politicians overwhelmed by their tasks (54 percent).

This is the highest value in the pandemic so far.

In the summer, 40 percent of the interviewees judged this, in the first lockdown in April 2020 it was 46 percent, as the study says, which was to be published this morning.

The survey “Die Ängste der Deutschen” has been regularly commissioned by R + V Insurance for almost 30 years and is considered a small seismograph of sensitivities relating to politics, business, family and health.

Most recently, on January 25th and 26th, around 1,000 adults between 16 and 75 years of age were surveyed by pollsters for an interim result.

For Manfred Schmidt, political scientist at the University of Heidelberg, the growing concerns of German citizens in the pandemic do not reflect a vague “German fear”.

“Something tipped over there.

The matter has become closer for politics, ”he told the German press agency.

For the scientist, the new survey result shows declining confidence.

Schmidt sees the long lockdown and the ongoing vaccine discussion as possible causes.

From the political scientist's point of view, for example, it was a fundamental mistake to shift vaccine procurement to the EU level.

National strategies have worked better.

At the political level, he missed the clear admission of mistakes from which one could learn, said Schmidt.
