More than two weeks after the generalization of the curfew at 6 p.m., the French have changed their pace of life.

This is particularly felt in the supermarket where peaks of traffic are recorded around 5 p.m., especially in large cities.

So supermarkets are forced to adapt in turn to limit the risk of contamination.

New habits.

More than 15 days after the implementation of the 6 p.m. curfew nationally to fight the spread of the Covid, the French are adapting their pace of life.

This is particularly the case for shopping: supermarkets are noticing changes in behavior, starting with consumption.

The latter increased by 5% last week compared to the same period last year.

A slight overconsumption which is certainly not a problem for supermarkets, unlike the peak of traffic.

Peaks in large cities around 5 p.m.

Because with the 6 p.m. cleaver, many French people rush to supermarkets at the same time: around 5 p.m.

A phenomenon that is all the more visible on Saturdays in large cities.

So to overcome this problem, the large distribution tried to open earlier, but the success is mixed.

"In big cities, we can see that it is very difficult to go shopping early in the morning or between 12 noon and 2 pm", recognizes at the microphone of Europe 1 Jacques Creyssel, general delegate of the trade federation and distribution (FCD)

More checkouts and staff to manage flows

A situation specific to large cities, since "in small towns there is a much greater delay towards lunchtime shopping," he says.

So to limit the risk of contamination during peaks in attendance, almost all brands have increased the number of checkouts open between lunchtime and 6 p.m.

Some have even hired staff to manage the flow of the fruit and vegetable department, the one where we tend to congregate the most.
