Eisenach / Rüsselsheim (dpa / th) - The car manufacturer Opel has to temporarily throttle its production at its plant in Eisenach due to a lack of semiconductors.

Short-time work has been requested, said an Opel spokesman on Thursday upon request at the headquarters in Rüsselsheim.

Production would be decided anew every day - depending on the availability of the parts.

At Opel, only the Thuringian plant is currently affected by the delivery bottlenecks from which other automobile manufacturers are also suffering.

There, around 1,360 employees produce the Grandland city SUV.

First MDR Thuringia reported on the bottleneck in Eisenach.

Opel is trying in negotiations with suppliers "to keep the effects of the global shortage of semiconductors, which affects the entire automotive industry, as low as possible," said the company spokesman.

Nevertheless, production in Eisenach would have to be adjusted this week.

Only the SUV Grandland is produced there in various engine variants.
