Hanover (dpa) - The state of Lower Saxony wants to offer corona rapid tests for employees in daycare centers and schools.

"It is a personal concern of mine that we come to a test offer for our teachers and day-care center staff," said Minister of Culture Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) of the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Thursday).

The minister has not yet been able to say exactly when the tests will start.

His ministry will soon announce the details.

«We want to increase the security measures and support the individual sense of security.

We can make an important contribution to this with tests, ”said Tonne.

Teachers' associations, but also educators, had recently accused Ton several times of doing too little to protect health in schools and daycare centers.

The daycare centers are open in an emergency mode, and the graduating classes in Lower Saxony also have lessons in the schools.

In primary schools, parents are free to choose whether or not to send their children to class.

In schools, for example, instead of the 10 square meters per person required for offices, only 3.5 square meters per person are available in classes, criticized the Education Association.

In addition to free corona test options, the union also called for free FFP2 masks for all school employees.

In addition, the educational staff in schools and daycare centers should be given greater preference for vaccinations.
