Today, Thursday, the Democratic prosecution team asked former US President Donald Trump to testify next week, days before the start of his trial, as his supporters stormed the Congress building last month.

"I am writing to you to urge you to testify under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, regarding your behavior on January 6, 2021," chief prosecutor Jimmy Raskin said in a letter to Trump.

Trump's impeachment trial is scheduled to begin in the Senate on February 9, accusing him of instigating violence by his supporters and storming the Congress building during the confirmation hearing for President Joe Biden's election.

On Tuesday, Democratic members of the House of Representatives presented their memo to Trump's trial, stating that "the president incited a violent crowd to attack the Capitol, and his determination to remain in power at any cost is a betrayal of a historical dimension."

On the other hand, Trump's legal team denied the charges against him, and they said in a memo that his trial in the Senate is unconstitutional because he is no longer president, and they also considered that the Senate has no jurisdiction to try him after leaving the White House.

Democrats are facing great difficulty in mobilizing Republican votes in support of Trump's indictment during the upcoming trial, as 45 of 50 Republicans indicated their belief that his trial before the House seeking to isolate him after he left power is unconstitutional, and the possibility of sufficiency of reprimanding the former president has also been raised.
