Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse has approved the new State Treaty on Gaming.

The rules were passed on Thursday evening in the state parliament in Wiesbaden with the votes of the black-green government majority.

The new state treaty, which provides for the opening of the gaming market for online providers, is to come into force on July 1st.

According to the new contract, games of chance on the Internet such as online poker or online casinos are permitted in Germany and the operation of amusement arcades is made more difficult due to the high requirements.

"With the new State Treaty on Gambling, we are strengthening player and youth protection in Germany and Hesse," said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU).

With the new State Treaty on gaming, among other things, a player blocking system will be introduced across all providers and forms of gaming.

Compared to the previous system, which was only game-related and regionally mandatory, this offers greater player protection.

The offering of online games of chance was previously prohibited in large parts of Germany.

Also because of the boom in previously unregulated games of chance on the Internet, the states agreed on a new state treaty in March.

A broad alliance of associations had accused the countries of drastic deficits in player protection.
