Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A GPS signal led the Düsseldorf police to two stolen e-bikes and the alleged thief.

A man reported on Thursday morning and said that he was tracking his e-bike, which had been stolen near Mönchengladbach the evening before, via GPS signal.

According to this, it is traveling at high speed on the motorway in the direction of Düsseldorf.

A police spokesman reported that it was immediately clear to the officers that the stolen bike was being taken away in a car.

The robbery was able to follow the brisk ride of the stolen e-bike before the GPS signal finally ended near Düsseldorf Central Station.

There officials discovered a parked car with Mönchengladbach license plates.

The engine was still warm and there was no trace of the driver.

When the officers shook the vehicle, the GPS signal started up again.

The police found two stolen e-bikes in the trunk.

The driver of the car initially hid and only returned to his car when the police wanted to open it and have it towed.

The 40-year-old denied the theft and claimed that he bought the e-bikes on an internet platform.

He was provisionally arrested.
