In the study "A smorgasbord of opportunities", the researchers looked at how the business is conducted, what is important in the program and how participants, staff and clients, such as the social services, experienced the support program.

- This is a snapshot, follow-up is needed over a longer period of time, but the results indicate that the Passus model works, says Kristina Alstam, senior lecturer at Linnaeus University.

It is difficult to say how many have received help

39 of the 43 participants who have received support from Passus via the social services or the police since 2015 have been included in the study.

But significantly more than that have received help through the program.

- Virtually everyone we interviewed has their own permanent home, for example, and a large majority stated that they had a significantly improved life situation, says Kristina Alstam, senior lecturer.

The study was partly funded by the Swedish Crime Prevention Council.

Listen to Peter Svensson, operations manager for Fryshuset's defector operations, and "Simon", who previously belonged to a criminal network but was helped to drop out.
