Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Benedikt Pliquett has converted his “Alkotheke” restaurant into a corona test center with the approval of the Hamburg health department.

The 36-year-old former football professional of FC St. Pauli wants to help in the midst of the corona pandemic and have antigen rapid tests carried out in the Kiez pub, as well as PCR tests from next week.

Pliquett's association “Brothers Teresa Straßenhilfe eV” will also give homeless and socially disadvantaged people in the St. Pauli district a free test, the “Bild” newspaper reported (Thursday).

"Basically, I look for solutions in all situations in life," said Pliquett.

And the former goalkeeper, who has been organizing Christmas dinners for the homeless on Christmas Eve for years, added: "I would like to do my part so that we can soon return to normal - including the restaurateurs in the Kiez."

The ex-professional was in the goal of the current second division club FC St. Pauli from 2004 to 2013.

Before that, the native of Hamburg played for three years in the youth teams of city rivals HSV.

In 2016 he ended his career and opened, among other things, his trendy bar on Hans-Albers-Platz in the St. Pauli district.

With a business partner, he founded "Brothers Teresa Road Aid eV" a good year ago, primarily to help the homeless.
