Flensburg (AP) - The handball players of the SG Flensburg-Handewitt celebrated their seventh victory in the Champions League.

With the 28:26 (14:15) on Thursday at HC Brest in Belarus, the North Germans took the lead in Group A with 15: 3 points. Göran Sögard Johannessen was the best SG thrower with nine goals.

Mikita Vailupau, Vladimir Vranjes and Marko Panic were each successful five times for the host.

The Flensburgers had traveled to Brest with a thinned out squad.

The injured Lasse Svan and Jacob Heinl were missing, as was the corona infected Johannes Golla.

Lasse Möller came into action after his hand injury and winter access Alexander Petersson, who had returned to SG from the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

Despite the changes, the North Germans quickly found their way into the game in the hall filled with numerous spectators, taking the lead 3-0 (3rd).

Shortly before half-time, Brest used a double majority and a Flensburg inattentiveness to go into the break with a narrow lead.

Even after that, the SG initially made life difficult for itself.

In the attack, the number of mistakes remained high, in the defense there was a lack of freshness.

With an energy performance, the Flensburg team ensured the Belarusians' first home defeat in the current Champions League season.
