Dresden (dpa / sn) - The corona pandemic also had an impact on workers' illnesses in Saxony in 2020.

The number of sick leave decreased by 11.6 percent, but at the same time an average case lasted 15.6 percent longer than in 2019, the health insurance company DAK-Gesundheit announced on Thursday.

Overall, the sickness rate in Saxony was 4.6 percent, slightly above the previous year's level (4.5 percent).

Days absent due to musculoskeletal problems had increased significantly, and mental illnesses had reached a new high.

More than every fifth day absent from work in 2020 was due to back pain or similar problems.

Statistically, every DAK insured person in the Free State had 3.8 days lost due to "backs" - about six percent more than in the previous year.

"The working world has changed drastically as a result of Corona," explained Christine Enenkel, head of the DAK in Saxony.

Many employees perceive the home office as a relief, but in the long run there are also negative health consequences.

In addition to back pain, there are more days absent from mental illness.

The average length of sick leave last year was 14.1 days - 1.9 days more than last year: “We see more lengthy cases.

And for those with long-term illnesses, the way back to the world of work seems to be much more problematic under the current conditions, ”commented Enenkel on the figures.

For the analysis, data from around 54,000 gainfully insured persons of DAK-Gesundheit in Saxony were evaluated, it said.
