Essen (AP) - The 120-minute cup fight between fourth division club Rot-Weiss Essen against Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has taken its toll.

Two days after RWE's 2-1 coup, the stadium operator closed the arena on Hafenstrasse up to and including Sunday.

Thus, the top game of the Regionalliga West between Essen and Borussia Dortmund's U23s, scheduled for Saturday, has to be canceled.

The same applies to the women's Bundesliga game of SGS Essen against SC Sand scheduled for Sunday.

The turf, which has already been badly damaged, is unplayable after the cup round of 16 including extra time in continuous rain.

"With a view to the weather forecast, we could now face a slightly longer break in the game," said RWE sports director Jörn Nowak.

Dortmund currently lead the table of the Regionalliga with two points more, but also one more played game in front of the unbeaten Essenes.
