Melbourne (AP) - After the positive corona case of a hotel employee in Melbourne, Germany's top player Angelique Kerber tested negative for the corona virus.

Their management announced this on request.

The result is not really surprising, since Kerber was in strict hotel quarantine for two weeks until last Friday because there was a positive Corona case on her flight to Melbourne.

At the end of this time, during which she was not allowed to leave her room, the 33-year-old and her team moved to another hotel.

On Wednesday it became known that an employee of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where a large part of the tennis professionals and their companions had spent the 14-day quarantine after arriving in Australia, had tested positive for the corona virus.

507 players and officials of the Australian Open Bubble then had to go into quarantine again because they may have had contact with the hotel employee.

Corona tests have been scheduled for everyone.

All meetings of the five preparatory tournaments and the ATP Cup planned for this Thursday were then canceled.

This also affected the German team's clash against Serbia at the ATP Cup and Kerber's round of 16 against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur at the WTA tournament.

The draw for the Australian Open planned for Thursday has also been postponed to Friday.

Then the tournaments will continue again, said Australian Open boss Craig Tiley.

There is currently no threat of cancellation of the Australian Open, which begins on Monday.

"We are absolutely confident that the Australian Open will take place," said Tiley.
