Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon AfD politician Sebastian Wippel has demanded the widespread use of body cams and tasers in the police patrol duty.

The member of the state parliament - a police officer by profession - referred on Wednesday to violence against officials.

Last year officials were injured in 46 cases by physical violence on duty.

Wippel was referring to a response from the Interior Ministry to a small request from the left.

“The best escalation is the one that doesn't take place.

Body cams in connection with situation-appropriate action can have a de-escalating effect, "explained Wippel.

Should violence nevertheless occur, more legal certainty will be created for both sides.

Therefore, Saxon police officers on patrols all over Saxony would have to be equipped with this technology.

The introduction that began last year must not stop halfway.

According to Wippel, there is also some catching up to do with tasers, which so far have only been used by special units and are also needed on patrol duty.

"They are also an instrument for preventing violence, but also for quickly ending individual resistance."
