A 31-year-old man was sentenced to twenty-four months in prison, six of which were suspended by the court in Argentan (Orne) on Tuesday.

He was accused of trying to extort money from his burglars, reports

Le Réveil Normand

.

Known to hold large quantities of narcotics, the defendant was robbed in December 2016 at his home in Nonant-le-Pin.

Two thieves left with 500 to 600 g of cannabis wafers and a computer.

Equipped with a video surveillance system, the victim quickly identified his burglars.

He then arranged to meet them at his place.

Particularly angry, he allegedly used a firearm, hitting one of the two suspects in the face with the butt and firing a shot at a car.

And while the two thieves brought him their loot, the defendant would have tried to extort 5,000 euros each as compensation.

Not seeing the money arrive fast enough, the thirty-something then threatened the two thieves several times with reprisals.

Placed in police custody, the defendant denied his possession of narcotics and firearms.

He explained that he was armed “only” with a pickaxe handle to defend himself in case of problems.

During a search, police found 27 grams of cannabis and a pellet gun.

In addition to his prison sentence, the accused was sentenced to an obligation of care and work, a ban on holding a weapon and coming into contact with the victims.

A deferred deposit warrant was issued by the court: the man will begin his sentence from March 9.
