Cologne (dpa / lnw) - A 28-year-old is said to have cheated seniors by around 220,000 euros, disguised as a fake police officer.

The trial of the woman, who is said to have acted as a member of a gang specialized in the police scam, begins on Wednesday (9:30 a.m.) in Cologne.

She is accused of accomplished and attempted commercial fraud in five cases.

With the fraud, you have obtained cash, gold bars and gold nuggets, among other things.

In the scam, callers pretend to be police officers.

In doing so, they pretend to want to warn of a gang of burglars who are targeting the victims' valuables.

Under the legend of wanting to secure cash or jewelry, they then have the treasures handed over to them.

These then reach the actual wire-pullers via middlemen.

In the case of the 28-year-olds, seniors between the ages of 65 and 91 are said to have been the victims.

According to the indictment, the German, as an alleged police officer, was responsible for collecting the loot from the seniors.

The actual callers operated from Turkey.
