Hanover (dpa / lni) - With a stolen car, thieves drove into a jewelry store in Hanover and stole high-quality jewelry there.

The unknown people fled by car after the fact early Wednesday morning, the police said.

According to the investigations so far, they drove backwards against the door of the jeweler in the city center and broke open the display cases in the shop.

The alarm system went off, but the police officers who had rushed up could no longer catch anyone.

With the help of the license plate, the officers identified the 79-year-old owner of the vehicle.

The police said he had credibly assured that his car had previously been stolen.

Nobody got hurt.

The value of the stolen jewelry and the amount of damage are still unclear.

The investigators are now hoping for evidence.
