Last year, nine drownings related to ice occurred in Sweden, according to the Swedish Lifesaving Society.

Already this year, a fatal accident occurred in Sörmland when a man was out fishing in Gnesta municipality last Saturday.

The Sörmland Coast's rescue service, which covers Nyköping, Gnesta, Trosa and Oxelösund, now urges the public to be careful and think about having the right equipment with them and never go out on the ice alone.

- Out by the sea, it is nasty, says Henrik Holm, force leader.
