The Government has wanted to make it clear that the draft of the Trans Law prepared by the Ministry of Equality is the proposal of this department but not that of the Executive.

According to government sources explain to Europa Press, the text currently only includes the postulates of United We Can and must still complete its process and be studied by the rest of the ministries that have powers in affected matters.

This future law has been the subject of discrepancies within the Government between the United We Can and the PSOE for months, with the first vice president, Carmen Calvo, at the helm, since Montero announced his intentions to include the free determination of gender in the norm , something that has finally been included and that several feminist groups do not share.

Specifically, the draft that has been disseminated eliminates the depathologization of transsexuality, allowing the change of sex without the need for medical or psychological tests, and collects as the only requirement for the change in the Civil Registry the "express declaration" of the person.

The 'number two' of Podemos aims to bring the draft bill to the Council of Ministers in the first half of February, although the sources consulted warn that the text has not yet finished being processed within the Government, because it has only gone through Equality, and "only includes the postulates of United We Can".

Minister Montero's team is currently negotiating this regulation with Calvo, in her capacity as minister of the Presidency, Democratic Memory and Relations with the Courts, so it is susceptible to any change before its approval by all members of the Executive.

In this context, Calvo and Montero held a meeting last week to analyze the Equality proposal of the Trans law and also the LGTBI law, which the minister wants to jointly promote in February.
