Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Thousands of people are homeless in Rhineland-Palatinate.

This emerges from the country's current emergency housing statistics.

Accordingly, as of September 30, 2019, there were a total of 6177 people without an apartment, two years earlier it was 7901.

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD), the data was collected from the municipalities and the independent organizations providing assistance to the homeless.

However, according to the statistics, the figures are only partially comparable.

The feedback from the municipalities and from the independent organizations had been different in the past few years.

Measured against the number of inhabitants, according to statistics for Rhineland-Palatinate, there is a rate of 15.1 registered homeless people per 10,000 inhabitants.

In 2017 and 2018 this was 19.4 each.

Based on the available data, a comparatively large number of people live without a home, especially in the urban and rural districts in Rheinhessen as well as in the Front and South Palatinate.
