Mönchengladbach (AP) - Former Gladbach and Dortmund Bundesliga coach Horst Köppel advises Marco Rose to stay with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Borussia vom Niederrhein confirmed that the 72-year-old had reduced the gap to Borussia Dortmund in recent years.

"BVB is maybe half a size bigger than Gladbach, that can be," said Köppel in an interview with the "Rheinische Post" (Wednesday).

«If I were Rose I would stay in Gladbach.

It's not finished here, I think. "

Rose has a contract in Gladbach until 2022, but also has an exit clause.

BVB is very interested in him.

Köppel can understand that the Westphalians are concerned with 44-year-old Rose.

"I still know Edin Terzic from my time as a U23 coach at BVB," said Köppel about the current Dortmund coach.

«He's a good coach with good ideas.

But I think a club like BVB needs an experienced coach. "

Köppel was active as a player for Gladbach and won all five German championships with the club.

As a trainer, he worked for both Mönchengladbach and BVB.

With Dortmund he won the DFB Cup in 1989.

This success is considered to be the starting signal for the upswing in Westphalia since the 1990s.
