Bremen (dpa / lni) - There are many corona infections in nursing homes in Bremen despite vaccinations.

It will take until the vaccination protection is fully effective, said a spokesman for the health department on Wednesday.

The evening before, the department had announced that there were 221 corona infections in 16 stationary elderly care facilities in the city of Bremen.

Residents are affected 134 times and employees 87 times.

There are outbreaks in twelve facilities and individual infections in the four other homes.

The infection is symptom-free or with mild symptoms in most of these people, the spokesman said.

Around 95 percent of the residents of the homes had been vaccinated once, around a third had already received the second vaccination.

But even after the second vaccination, full protection only unfolds after seven to ten days.

"We will only be able to say at the end of February that the nursing homes are really protected," said the spokesman.

According to the department, the health department looks after the affected facilities and carries out tests on site.

It also supports the implementation of hygiene concepts.

According to the spokesman, it has not yet been possible to vaccinate in five homes due to acute outbreaks.
