The Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate, IVO, has examined 98 special homes around the country and what the conditions have been for conducting good care for those affected by covid-19.

Two of the homes are located in Åre municipality and there is no cheerful reading in the report from IVO.

Some of the shortcomings in Åre:

• Poor conditions for providing expert and caring health care.

• Deficiencies in the health and medical records.

• Patients have received injections of morphine without a nurse being present.

• End-of-life medical care has been initiated by decision only by the nurse.

• Staff shortages have led to patients dying alone.

• Risky and inappropriate storage of morphine doses - stored in the staff refrigerator.

The Social Welfare Committee's responsibility

IVO further writes that the care provider (the social welfare board in Åre) has a responsibility to ensure that there are conditions for care to be provided in accordance with current regulations.

Explain the shortcomings

IVO now requests that the social welfare board in Åre explain the shortcomings that IVO has established and account for how they are to be remedied.

No later than 15 March, a reply must have been received by IVO, otherwise they may be forced to decide on an injunction.
