Covid-19: France launches into vaccine production

The anti-Covid-19 vaccine developed by the American Moderna will be produced in France from March 2021 by the Recipharm laboratory, in Monts, in Indre-et-Loire.

From the end of February-beginning of March, four pharmaceutical sites will start producing these vaccines, announced President Emmanuel Macron after a meeting with major French and European laboratories.

The government's goal is to offer a vaccine to all French adults who want it by the end of the summer.

Four pharmaceutical sites in France will start producing anti-Covid vaccines, developed by other laboratories.

Delpharm will produce the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine in its Normandy plant.

The Recipharm Laboratory for the Moderna vaccine in Monts, in Indre-et-Loire.

And Fareva the CureVac vaccine at its sites in Pau and Val-de-Reuil, in the South-West region.

The first two vaccines have already been approved in the European Union, so their production will start quickly.

But the CureVac vaccine is still pending.

France is awaiting marketing authorization.

Its production should not start until May.

Sanofi will start production around July

As for the last pharmaceutical site, it belongs to the French laboratory Sanofi, which is developing its own vaccine.

But this was several months late.

Its production should start around July, according to the Minister for Industry. 

Ultimately, the government's goal is to produce more doses quickly, and to anticipate, by producing vaccines adapted to the variants, by the fall.
