Bremen (dpa) - The Bremen space company OHB is taking legal action against the decision of the EU to have the competition build new Galileo navigation satellites.

An OHB spokesman confirmed a corresponding report in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (“FAZ” / Thursday) on Wednesday.

The spokesman for the German Press Agency said that a lawsuit had been filed with the General Court of the European Union (EUG).

The court then suspended the signing of the plans with Airbus and Thales.

According to the “FAZ” report, the European Space Agency ESA was surprised by OHB's objection, while the EU Commission was calm.

It is the right of companies to have decisions reviewed, it was said from the environment of the responsible Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton.

According to the company spokesman, the Bremen-based space company has built all the first-generation Galileo satellites.

22 are already in space, another 12 are completed.

After the Franco-German Airbus group and the Italian-French Thales Alenia Space had been awarded the contract by the EU, OHB CEO Marco Fuchs spoke of a major failure.
