The Blekinge region has previously had the opportunity to receive 56 patients for covid care, in addition to those who need intensive care.

The number of care places has now been reduced to 40.

- The number of patients in need of covid care has decreased.

The reduction is quite sharp and it has meant that we have taken the step so that we can cut back on the care places we have at our disposal for covid-19, says Peter Janson, chief physician in the Blekinge Region.

Readiness for change

At the moment, Blekinge Hospital has 27 people admitted who are being cared for after infection with covid-19, including six patients who are being cared for intensively.

- We do not have as many covid patients now, at the same time we need care places for other patients with other diseases for which we also need care places.

That is why we have made this decision.

The danger is not over

At the same time, the chief physician wants to emphasize that one should not take this news as if the danger is over.

- We think it is positive, at the same time it is not a signal that the danger is over and that we can relax.

That is not the way to interpret it.

It is an adaptation to another situation, but with readiness to act if needed.

We must always be prepared for things to happen.
