Berlin (dpa / bb) - After the serious accident with two deaths in the Berlin district of Treptow, the driver of the car does not have to be in custody.

The judge at the standby court had rejected the application for an arrest warrant because of doubts about the urgent suspicion and because there were no grounds for detention, the attorney general said on Wednesday via her Twitter account.

"We are checking whether we can lodge a complaint against it," it said.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the 21-year-old of negligent homicide and a prohibited car race.

According to previous investigations, the car with four people between the ages of 19 and 21 sped on the street Am Treptower Park at around 10:40 p.m., the driver lost control of the car before a junction and crashed into street trees with great force before the car burned out.

Two young men died in the crash, one immediately and the other a little later in a clinic.

A third passenger lies in a clinic with severe burn injuries.

His life is in danger.
