The baby, four months old and with significant lesions, died Thursday in Nice hospital after being transferred from Corsica.

His father was indicted on Wednesday for “aggravated intentional homicide”, said Bastia prosecutor Arnaud Viornery.

He was also indicted for "aggravated violence", said the prosecutor in a statement, adding that he had been placed in detention by the judge of freedoms and detention.

The mother of the baby also indicted

The mother was indicted for "aggravated violence, non-denunciation of ill-treatment on a 15-year-old minor and non-assistance to a person in aggravated danger".

She was also imprisoned.

Judicial information was opened and entrusted to an investigating judge, said the magistrate.

The father's lawyer, Me Grégoire Etrillard, indicated that his client denied the alleged facts.

"This procedure, carried out in the rush of emotion, is based on a hasty assertion of mistreatment, on the basis of medical observations interpreted in the light of the recommendations of the High Authority of Health relating to the shaken baby syndrome, questionable because too affirmative, ”said the lawyer.

“Our client claims his innocence and disturbing elements of the medical history of the child and his family must be explored, as they could explain the various findings made on the child, in particular his intracranial bleeding wrongly taken for the consequence of a shaking, ”he added.

Injuries, hematomas and intracranial wounds

Me Anna-Livia Guerrini, who defends the mother, indicated that her client was "presumed innocent" and that "the parents do not incriminate themselves" in this case.

Help was called on Wednesday to take care of this baby in Calenzana, a village in Balagne (Haute-Corse) where he lived with his parents.

Transferred first to the Calvi hospital in serious condition, he was then taken to Nice where he died, said

Corse-Matin

, who revealed the information.

In view of the wounds, bruises and intracranial wounds presented by the small victim, attesting to “the violence of the blows”, the prosecution had retained the count of “aggravated intentional homicide”, the Bastia prosecutor had indicated on Sunday.
