Nuremberg (dpa) - "Commissioner Lucas" is facing a new beginning.

After 30 criminal cases in Regensburg, the TV investigator packs her bags and starts a new job: in Nuremberg.

Upon arrival in the Franconian metropolis, she is involved in an accident and thus directly in a murder case.

The latest episode of the successful ZDF series can be seen on Saturday (February 6) at 8.15 p.m.

Leading actress Ulrike Kriener assures on ZDF that the character of the commissioner will not change: "Even in Nuremberg, she will not compete for sympathy or make herself small, she will follow her inner compass, even if it offends her."

The fact that “Commissioner Lucas” would leave Regensburg after 18 years is the result of a lengthy development process.

As early as 2018, the broadcaster approached her with the request to give the series a new coat of paint, as reported by the producer team Ulli Weber, Viola Jäger and Alicia Remirez.

They brought director Thomas Berger and author Christian Jeltsch on board and now Ellen Lucas is investigating in Nuremberg.

Saying goodbye to Regensburg was difficult, says Kriener.

And by that she doesn't just mean the city, but also her colleagues: “First and foremost Michael Roll and Tilo Prückner, who were there from the start.

That the farewell to Tilo became final a few months later was a shock for all of us, and I can say that without him the Lucas couldn't have been the same. "

Prückner, who played the odd caretaker, died in July 2020.

A new beginning, being a stranger and loneliness are topics that the commissioner in Nuremberg has to deal with as well as with her arrival in her new team.

Claudia Kottal and Sebastian Schwarz play Lucas' new colleagues Betty Sedlacek and Werner Fritz.

Heino Ferch can be seen in a guest role as police psychologist Magnus Guttmann.

The debut at her new place of work comes with a big bang: a car driver crashes into the inspector's car.

The man escapes with a child.

A woman's body lies in the trunk of the car.

As it turns out, the accident driver Franz Vegener (Nick Romeo Reimann) had recently been released from prison and the dead his grandmother.

The commissioner and her team do everything in their power to find Vegener and the child - his younger brother Maik.

Because Maik seems to have been taken hostage.

It is also initially unclear what role Vegener's mother and her partner play in the case.

Can police psychologist Guttmann help the commissioner?
