Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The around 22,000 Brandenburg daycare teachers are increasingly desperate in the corona pandemic, according to the service union.

"We feel left in the lurch by the state government, education minister Britta Ernst and prime minister Dietmar Woidke (both SPD)," emphasized Frank Wolf, district manager Verdi Berlin-Brandenburg, in an online press conference on Tuesday.

The state government is letting the educators pay for the crisis.

Nationwide uniform regulations are required in the daycare centers.

"Away from regular operation to serious emergency care," said Wolf.

In Brandenburg, according to the Ministry, daycare centers should only remain closed in regions with particularly high numbers of infections.

In a petition to the state government, sufficient and regular supply of suitable protective masks and weekly corona rapid tests are required for the educators.

«We cannot stay away from the children.

Since they do not develop any symptoms, it is difficult to tell whether they are sick, ”said Diana Walluks, educator in Kremmen (Oberhavel district) and chairwoman of the Verdi regional group for social, child and youth welfare.

Contrary to the decision of the federal-state conference, daycare centers in Brandenburg are generally open.

However, parents are asked to look after their children at home if possible.

According to Verdi, the occupancy rate is 70 to 90 percent - just as high as in January of last year before Corona.

The petition also calls for consistent stipulations on systemically relevant professional groups with a right to childcare.

Since the daycare centers in the country were almost in normal operation, the educators ran the high risk of contracting Covid-19 every day.
