The US State Department has confirmed that the military has taken full control in Myanmar as a coup d'etat, and has announced that it will proceed with a review of economic assistance to Myanmar except for humanitarian assistance.

A senior U.S. State Department official said in a telephone call on the 2nd that the Myanmar military had taken full control of the state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, President Win Min and other ruling party executives on the 1st. It was revealed that it was certified as a coup d'etat.



He also announced that he would proceed with a review of economic assistance to Myanmar, excluding humanitarian assistance such as assistance to the Rohingya minority of Muslims.



According to senior officials, detained Shu Qi and other ruling party executives are still out of contact.



A senior official said, "We will continue to urge military leaders to release all detained people immediately and unconditionally," and reinstate sanctions that have been lifted in response to the move toward democratization. I emphasized the attitude of not resigning.



He also said, "We are in frequent contact with allies and partners in this region, such as Japan and India, and will continue to hold discussions." He stated that he would continue discussions with Japan and other countries regarding the response to Myanmar.
