Sweden closed the border with Norway a week ago.

Norway had been affected by outbreaks of corona mutation from Great Britain in several municipalities not far from the Swedish border.

But while the spread of infection is declining in the Västra Götaland region as a whole.

Strömstad is going in the opposite direction, writes Göteborgs-Posten.

Most cases

During week three, Strömstad had by far the most cases in terms of the population of all 49 municipalities in Västra Götaland.

And during week four, the number of newly registered cases has almost doubled.

Efforts are now being made to overcome the infection.

“Everyone in Strömstad must help.

There is no activity that is exempt, "says Peter Nolskog, assistant infection control doctor in Västra Götaland, in a press release.

Turn the trend

The municipality writes on its website that all classes in upper secondary school are transferred to distance education.

Cultural school activities that take place in group training are paused, cultural and leisure facilities close, sports facilities are closed for all training, the social administration applies for permission to introduce a restraining order at homes for the elderly and several municipal activities are closed down.

"Therefore, it is now important to be able to quickly reverse the trend," says Peter Nolskog.

Whether it is the British virus mutation that has taken root in Strömstad is still unclear, however, but samples from the municipality have been sent to the Public Health Agency for analysis.
