Gelsenkirchen (AP) - FC Schalke 04 made a spectacular exchange of players at the end of the transfer period.

The Bundesliga team has handed over the Turkish international Ozan Kabak to the English champions Liverpool FC with his coach Jürgen Klopp.

Kabak changes on loan until the end of the season, in the contract there is, according to Schalke, a purchase option for Liverpool from Monday evening.

The bottom of the table signed Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal and gave the former national player a contract until the end of the season.

The defender, who became world champion with the DFB-Elf in 2014, has only made three appearances in the Premier League this season and is supposed to close the gap that Kabak has left.

The parties had agreed not to disclose the terms.

“You have to look at this change from two perspectives: Economically, the transfer of Ozan Kabak makes a lot of sense for Schalke 04, especially with a view to the effects of the corona pandemic,” said sports director Jochen Schneider.

"In addition, we are convinced that with Shkodran Mustafi we have been able to sign a very good central defender who will fill the sporting void that Ozan will undoubtedly leave behind."
