Bezos founded Amazon in 1994. Initially, books were sold online, but soon the business expanded to include more and more types of goods.
Today, Amazon is one of the world's largest companies with a value of the equivalent of SEK 16 trillion.
After more than 25 years as CEO, Bezos will now instead be appointed chairman of the board of Amazon.
The replacement for the CEO will be Andy Jassy, who started working for Amazon in 1997 and today is head of Amazon's cloud services, which accounts for a significant part of the global giant's profits.
