The Minister for Housing Emmanuelle Wargon set a target on Tuesday to build "250,000 social housing units in two years" to cope with the shortage.

"With the HLM organizations, the social partners, I propose that we build 250,000 social housing in two years", she declared on BFMTV / RMC specifying that 90,000 social housing units had been built this year, "less than our objectives ".

"I issue a challenge to everyone on the construction of social housing", she continued, wishing "that the 2021-2022 recovery plan is an opportunity to catch up."

This "challenge" will be financed "with money from the State. And with the agreement of the social partners, we will put together 1.5 billion euros with Action Logement, which is the social partners' body on housing. with the Caisse de dépôt, ”she said.

She also launched an appeal "to HLM organizations so that they start building again" and to local elected officials to issue building permits.

To facilitate access to housing, the minister also indicated that the Visale guarantee system, which makes it possible to benefit from a guarantee guaranteed by the State, would be extended to "employees who earn less than 1,500 euros net".

"If the social partners confirm Thursday" this guarantee will be extended "to all employees who earn less than 1,500 euros net per month and that is 6 million employees," she added.
