Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - From the point of view of Hanau's Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD), the planned victim fund of the state of Hesse has insufficient funds.

In addition, the fund “does not do justice to its special responsibility in the context of racist, right-wing terrorist and anti-Semitic violence,” said Kaminsky in an open letter to the parliamentary groups of the CDU, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, SPD and FDP.

“In no other federal state have there been as many deaths from racism and right-wing terrorism as in Hesse in the past 24 months.

This must be given special consideration, ”it said.

Similar to the models in Thuringia and Bavaria, such a specific victim fund would have to be paid out in the form of an unbureaucratic one-off payment without a needs test.

"His premise must, instead of taking action in the event of gaps in existing services, be the assumption of responsibility by the state of Hesse," it said in the letter, which was sent by all parliamentary groups in the Hanau city council, the "February 19th Hanau Initiative" and the Anne Frank educational institution and the advice center for those affected by right-wing, racist and anti-Semitic violence «Response» was supported.

The funds of the victim fund were also aimed at those affected by the racially motivated attack in Hanau, which killed nine almost a year ago, as well as for other crimes.

"Two million euros is not a sufficient amount to actually materially protect the dozen of those affected in Hanau and the hundreds of other people affected," said Kaminsky.

"This cannot prevent existential hardships and we fear that additional competition could arise between the various groups."
