Alfdorf (dpa / lsw) - With the help of the notorious grandchildren's trick, fraudsters stole 40,000 euros from a senior citizen in the Rems-Murr district.

According to the police on Tuesday, a caller had reported to the woman and pretended to be a granddaughter.

The caller told the senior citizen that she was at a notary at the moment of the call and wanted to buy a property for 40,000 euros.

Immediately afterwards, the alleged notary contacted the senior citizen and persuaded her to provide the alleged granddaughter with the money.

The next day the senior woman picked up 40,000 euros from the bank and handed it over to a stranger in Alfdorf.

He had pretended to be a confidante of the notary and then probably drove away in a yellow minibus.

The police did not announce the age of the cheated senior on Tuesday for reasons of victim protection.

The act occurred in late January.
