Frankfurt / Berlin / Essen (dpa) - The open-ended strikes that have been going on since Saturday in the Deutsche Bank call centers are not likely to end quickly.

The determination of the strikers is great, said the negotiator of the Verdi union, Roman Eberle, on Tuesday on request.

"Now it probably comes down to who has the longer breath."

The trade unions Verdi and DBV had called the employees of DB Direkt GmbH in Berlin and Essen to go on strike, Eberle spoke of a high participation.

Bank customers would have had to wait 45 minutes or longer when calling the call centers.

In addition to telephone customer service, the tasks of DB Direkt also include direct sales of selected Deutsche Bank banking products.

In the collective bargaining negotiations that have been going on since July, Verdi is demanding six percent more wages retroactively from April 1, 2020, but at least 150 euros.

In addition, the union wants to enforce a choice between money and free time and the introduction of a 13th month salary.

According to Verdi, in the four rounds of negotiations so far, the employer has offered 1.5 percent more money from November 2020 and a further increase of 1.5 percent from January 2022.
