Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the trial of the murder of a five-time mother in Düsseldorf, the court has doubts about the sole perpetrator of the accused.

It cannot be ruled out that the 49-year-old son of the victim, who was accused of murder, had a helper, said presiding judge Rainer Drees on Tuesday.

The mother was reportedly killed in her sleep in the living room of her apartment.

Her body was dismembered, packed in black garbage bags, and taken to the basement.

Then the apartment was cleaned.

Her 49-year-old son, who was accused of murder at the district court, protested his innocence at the start of the trial.

The younger brother, for example, is a possible helper.

The 47-year-old was demonstrably in his mother's apartment on the alleged day of the crime at the end of April 2017.

It is difficult to understand that he did not notice anything of the cruel act.

According to the court, the sister-in-law and niece of the 62-year-old victim have also become entangled in considerable contradictions.

The women are said to have given incorrect times to phone calls they had with the victim.

Prosecutor Martin Stücker became clearer: "You simply lied, I don't know why."

According to the defendant, his mother left for work on the morning of April 29, 2017 and did not return home.

One day later he took the bus back to his Serbian homeland.

His brother stayed in Düsseldorf.

The public prosecutor is convinced, however, that the son insidiously murdered his 62-year-old mother in her sleep because of a long smoldering family conflict.

The accused had been wanted with an international arrest warrant and was not caught until three years later in Croatia.

The 49-year-old was extradited in the summer of 2020.

If convicted of murder, the Serb must expect life imprisonment.

Twelve more negotiation days are scheduled for the process until March 25th.
