Wächtersbach / Frankfurt (dpa / lhe) - The corona protective masks currently required on trains may have saved a ticket inspector from a bite wound by a traveler.

The unknown man tried on Monday evening to bite the 63-year-old in the arm during a check-up.

However, according to the police, he forgot that he was wearing a mask.

"It made biting much more difficult, which ultimately protected the train attendant from injuries," a spokesman for the federal police reported in Frankfurt on Tuesday.

The 63-year-old wanted to check the traveler on Monday evening in a regional express in the Main-Kinzig district.

The man briefly showed her his ticket, but didn't want to give it to her.

When the woman grabbed the ticket, the man attacked her.

After the attack, he fled unrecognized when the train pulled into the Wächtersbach station.
