The parliamentary groups of the Union and SPD in the Bundestag want to extend the epidemic situation, which expires on March 31, by three months.

"We have in principle agreed with the coalition partner to limit the epidemic situation to June 30," said SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich WELT.

"We are thus giving Parliament the opportunity to discuss again before the summer break whether a further extension is necessary."

Establishing an epidemic situation enables the Federal Government to take protective measures by ordinance - without waiting for a parliamentary decision.

In a formulation aid from the Federal Ministry of Health for a draft law for the "continued validity of the regulations affecting the epidemic situation of national scope", it says that in view of the "still dynamic situation with regard to the spread, especially the new mutations of the coronavirus SARS-CoV -2 and the COVID-19 disease caused by this, it is necessary to extend the validity of the current protective measures.

Recommendations for carrying out corona vaccinations should in future be based in particular on four vaccination goals: the "reduction of severe or fatal disease progression", the "protection of people with a particularly high job-related risk of infection", the "special protection in environments with a high proportion of vulnerable people and with high outbreak potential ”and“ the maintenance of state functions and public life ”.

In the past, there have been repeated calls from constitutional lawyers and the opposition to better anchor the current corona vaccination ordinance from Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

It currently lacks a sufficient legal basis.

Can all citizens really be vaccinated by the end of summer?

After the summit, many ministers expressed their satisfaction with the discussions with the manufacturers.

The doubts remain, not only in the opposition - because one thing has become clearer than ever: Even promised vaccine quantities are by no means certain.
